This is something I've seen done in other forums, and I thought the format would fit Millennium perfectly. This alleatory comparisons by episode number put the seasons in perspective, and force the episodes to stand by themselves instead of as part of the mytharc. Furthermore, they're fun.

Anyway, if enough people enjoy this poll i'll post a new one (corresponding to the next episode numeral) every five days or so.

I voted for The Beginning and the End because the conversation between Frank and Peter is to me one of the high points of the show. It also manages to switch the show's focus nicely. An excelent season opener.

Then goes The Pilot, the impact of which has diminished on me over the years. It's biggest assets are the well accomplished dark imagery and mood. It introduces the characters properly but the story doesn't hold up to repeated viewings.

The Innocents is just a mess that made a mockery of the apocalyptic finale of season 2. My memories are a little fuzzy on this one, and I don't really care about giving it another go. I wouldn't mind much if it were just a bad episode by itself, but the way it alters the overall effect of Morgan and Wong's previous work is unforgivable.

'pilot' grabbed me and wouldn't let go. the eyes and mouths sewn shut still gives me shivers. for me, it's the winner.

i think both the 2nd and 3rd season premier eps ended up brushing away serious topics by introducing new serious topics. in the case of both, i didn't feel any real payoff to either until late in the 3rd season. if i had to choose either, on their individual merits, i'd pick 'the innocents' because of it's less-than-subtle reference to 'force majeure'. i just didn't get into doug hutchison as the polaroid stalker. on the other hand, the farm house full of polaroids was MOST creepy.

I had to go with the Pilot. Though there were a lot of things I loved about season 2, the Pilot still holds me awestruck as a stand-alone episode, and paves the way for the theme of the entire series for me. They spent a fortune on that one, and it shows!

....beleive it or not i came close to voting for T.B.A.T.E.! ...but in "in the end" i just couldn't do it based on how the season ended up. i know that was not to be part of the consideration but.....i couldn't help it!

...So, it the Pilot, then T.B.A.T.E., then The innocents, which despite all the fox mandated plane crashes, house explosions and car wrecks still had a very interesting story to tell, even if it could have been executed MUCH better, but helped, in a small but important way, to put MM back on the path to creative glory.

All three episodes are good (which surprised me after rewatching The Innocents recently - if you had asked me any time during the last five years, I would have lapsed into various obscenities), but the pilot easily wins out. It's near perfect, if thoroughly disturbing (but that goes without saying with Millennium). Of course, some of the credit has to go to the length of time they took with the pilot, but all three seasons also have episodes that surpass it while running under regular series constraints.

I didn't get into MM until the second season, and I didn't see the Pilot until SirokiClaus sent me it and some of the others on tape from his collection.

It was at that point when I watched it, that I went "OOOHHHHHH" because the things that happened in the pilot were explained better- I knew what was going to happen and why. it made sense. I knew then that had I seen the pilot I would have been hooked from the beginning.
