I was going to do a quote by quote reply to Libby's concise offering, but that always seems confrontational and rude. Perhaps I'm getting old. So I'll sum up instead.

Everything said here, I've thought myself - how hard the industry is, how difficult Fox can be etc. In fact, I'll go against the grain of my original intent and just quote this:

JIM: ...that's like someone who doesn't know anything about cars suggesting there's clearly no hope for it being repaired when you've not had years of working on engines

LIBBY: ... doesn't work. Most people know nothing about cars, but they know that the insurance industry works on the basis of costs versus returns. The same as Hollywood.

The reason I've pulled this out is because I think it highlights my whole point. Yes, most people do know the basis of insurance, even if they don't know the mechanics of that industry, I agree. But, so do the people in the industry. The mechanics often know the nature of their industry's insurance better than most people as their livelihood is constantly exposed to it.

Lance has worked in more aspects of the industry than his bio suggests - he's talked to me about them, about the financing (which is where the investors for the independent Millennium movie story came from - Lance's association with those people who finance films). He's worked in the early stages, some of which with his own creative work. He's also been saturated by the industries growth and changes through his own exposure via his talent and as you say, the people he works around.

I suppose my point is this: No, Lance is not the final say, the absolute truth, the ultimate answer to whether Millennium can have a movie - but when it comes to understanding the industry, he knows what we know. What's been said in this forum has come from his mouth. It's nothing new. But on top of that, he's in the industry. He's breathed the industry for decades, which in my humble opinion, puts his understanding of the chances far high than any of us here - and again, myself most certainly included.

And he's aware its a tough battle, but its not an emotional one for him. He's working within the flow of the industry. He knows when and not to approach FOX. He knows what sort of status and package has to be delivered to be listened to. He knows the costs and the legality issues. Yes, he knows what we knows - but he will push on because he's that kind of person. We may not get a movie, but he won't stop until every avenue has been tried - and he'll do that as a professional.

For the record, myself and Troy are looking at Millennium returning to the big screen like X-Files, personally we see a chance as a DTV, DVD or other such smaller affair. I think that's Lance's expectation but the doors of potential are being left wide open right now.

Now I can't convince people who disagree otherwise, and I wouldn't try. You're all entitled to your gifted opinions. However given the ethos of the question is the validity of a campaign, then I have to speak out on behalf of myself, Lance and Troy. Personally, I think we have more chance together as a community, but I've always said - and I'm sure I've said this to Mark on a couple of occasions - the longer it takes, the more uncertain or disillusioned the core of the fan community, those strong fans with the greatest bond to the show, will become. After all, who wants to invest hope when you could end up being disappointed?

Well that I leave to yourselves to decide. All I can add really is a little encouragement from myself and just clarify a little about Lance - he knows the industry well, he knows the hardships and he's not just hoping for a return - he believes that television as it is today - and film - is at a point where a Millennium movie would work. You may disagree, that's cool - but his isn't just a yearning to finish an old project, from what he sees within the industry, he thinks the potential is there - but like all good things, its always a long, difficult tread to make it happen. So I wouldn't ask you to have faith in me - because I'm no different to you guys - but I'd put faith in his belief being genuine and educated. Whether it can be realised, well, that's another question - but nothing is achieved if one doesn't try.

The reason Lance carries on, and why he hasn't lost heart while some here slowly are (and that's not an jab, just from what I can conclude from the post), is because he's had decades of experience in the industry - he's seen how it works, how the cogs turn and what can happen. He has far more experience of the industry than any of us here and that is why he believes. Because as he's said in private and in our interviews, he's seen things happen, they can happen again.

Again, no jab, if I wasn't in the position I am in, I'd probably rationally feel the same. What hope is there? But that's like someone who doesn't know anything about cars suggesting there's clearly no hope for it being repaired when you've not had years of working on engines. :)

His conviction is rational - it's not a screen or simply an emotional hope. He genuinely sees the opportunity there within Hollywood. That being said, he knows how slow Hollywood works and how its all about timing as much as good fortune.

Chris and Frank want it done, but as they've candidly said, and has been said here, it isn't as easy as that. They've never once said it could never happen practically.

I don't pretend to know the industry as much as I'd like to think I do (or have I just said I do pretend to know the industry more than I actually do? I'm confused), but he does - and while Lance believes, I believe. Plans are under way, but its all about timing and patience. That's not to pretend it will happen without a shadow of doubt, simply saying the situation is better than ever before - Lance's profile is on the rise, we have a lot of industry support (and crew support - who'd have thought the campaign would have brought on side so many wonderful names from the show? Glen and Tom Wright in particular are big supporters and not from wanting work from it - they just love seeing the fans fight for a show they put a lot of heart into), the creators are behind the prospect and we're getting media attention that is touching the industry.

So no promises, and I can't make you feel any differently - each to their own opinion. But the fact Lance, a long term Hollywood actor and a very honest and intelligent man - feels there is hope should give you hope far beyond my ramble. I hope it does.

Keep watching, these things take time if they're going to happen. Bottomline - every voice counts. If you give up on us then there is less chance than if you support us lol. I'm a firm believer that everyone's voice matters when trying to make a difference.

    Peace.

I love the idea of putting these shirts out there to MM's admiring fans, but I have a question about the purpose of them. Is this to promote the BTFB campaign or is it just a bunch of MM fans doing what they do best by sharing a fondness of the show by way of t-shirts?

I understand that there are legal issues in using anything related to the show directly, but if your purpose is to promote the campaign, don't you think that these shirts are a bit to obscure?

    It's a fair question.

    Quote

I live in t-shirts, but these days, I rarely ever truly pay attention to the millions of different logos that I see on a yearly basis and i'm wondering if these logos aren't counter-productive to the campaign. I'd bet that in a room of a thousand people, maybe one person would recognize the references made on any of these wonderful designs.

I think it was more a creative decision to try and do something interesting - and in all honesty it worked. Glen Morgan said that the T-Shirts were the very thing that brought him to us because they sold the idea that the people in the Millennium community, in his words, "got" the show.

Funny thing about marketing is sometimes the most obvious answer isn't always the best one. The fact the shirts have subtlety and aren't just blatant marketing is what was hoped would make them attractive to consumers. I think that might have been proved right.

    HOWEVER..

    Quote

Wouldn't something more straightforward help the campaign? Again, foregoing the obvious legal issues.

Maybe even something just stating "Bring back Frank Black"? Or is his name copyrighted as well?

I'm just thinking out loud here. Certainly not trying to dampen the mood or discourage these great designs and ideas.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to do just that - a few blatants. I'll speak to Baz about it.

Thank you for your candid feedback!

As we've said in other threads, Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and Jim Wong love these shirts. I certainly hope Baz does some more. The sheer character of work here is what drew Glen closer to our Millennium nest - if that's not a stamp of approval for these designs, I don't know what is!

Email is the blight of my life. I'll look into that - shouldn't say you're not authorised to email. No, I'm not one of the producers of Inalienable, fun as that sounds! I'll look into the email!

To the Mighty Laredo. May your day be laden with fun and soaked with ale and who knows, maybe the odd angel will pay you a visit or even a shady phone call from the 'Owls'.
Have a superb New Year my friend.
    Yours, Mark.
